Just a few days ago, Kinga Breining, an employee at Dawson College, launched an online petition. Her demand? Something that should have been done 30 years ago.
She is requesting that Westmount and/or the city of Montreal create a crosswalk between the entrances of Dawson and Alexis Nihon on Maisonneuve Blvd.
Having a crosswalk there is a no-brainer. No one wants to (and no one does) walk all the way to the intersection just to cross the street.
It’s simpler to just jaywalk. We’ve all done it at some point and we all witnessed, at least, several “close calls” with speeding cars or bicycles.
Over 800 people, at the time of writing this article, have signed the petition.
As the petition obviously stated:
People are going to take the shortest route possible.
And considering that the 2 entrances literally face each other. It makes sense for students (and humans in general) to take the shorter route and walk a straight line.
Dawson Will Get The Crosswalk!
Global News reached out to the city of Westmount and according to the Westmount city councillor, Cynthia Lulham:
Something will be put in place in September… it’s just a question of what type of crosswalk it will be.
